The Funeral Procession by Ellis Wilson

Requiem

In the tradition of Lamentation dances, Arthur Hall choreographed a series of pieces in memory of his mother and his drummer [see Obituaries]. He combined traditional West African forms of mourning, Iya Ni Hura & Nin Nin Wo, and modern dance, Requiem for Adam, which have been documented and will combine to make a beautiful and moving dance film.

Related works include Requiem for Malcolm, Requiem for Martin Luther King, Jr., Eulogy for John Coltrane, and A Tribute to James Baldwin. In all of these Arthur Hall provides an experience of mourning for a culture which is perhaps not as well prepared to express feelings about death as we might be.
