The Arthur Hall International Dance Center was inaugurated in December 1995 with rehearsals at 418 Main Street, Rockland, Maine for The Rhythm of Life dance concert. One year later, December 1996, the Center moves to Watts Hall in Thomaston. An ad hoc committee has been formed to establish a school there and an international dance company under the direction of Arthur Hall, who writes ~
The Arts belong to all people, and all people surrender to the Arts at some point. I am happy now after forty years of being a Symbol of Black Culture to expand my Vision to encompass the World's Cultures by founding the International Dance Center. The Support of the Community Uplifts my Spirit. The Center will be a place for the Creative Process, a place for International Music & Dance to Come Together, perhaps to Create what does not yet exist.
Arthur Hall

After forty-five years in the dance business, Arthur Hall is now building an institution "Where international music and dance can come together ... I've done the all-Black company," Arthur says. "Now I'd like to see how a center can bridge the differences that divide people. In the past few months I've combined traditional African dances in programs with Native American and traditional Hawaian dances and with Greek, flamenco, and classical ballet. Add modern warrior dances and live music and the results can be very exciting ."
